Air Montenegro opened Tivat-Baku route

June 10, 2024

Air Montenegro welcomed its first passengers from Baku today, officially launching the new Tivat-Baku route. Starting today, flights on this route will operate twice a week - on Mondays and Fridays.

At Tivat Airport, a special welcome was organized for the first passengers from Azerbaijan. Representatives from Air Montenegro, the National Tourism Organization of Montenegro, Airports of Montenegro, and the Tourism Organization of Tivat extended their greetings.

Maja Bjelić, PR Manager of Air Montenegro, stated that the company believes the opening of this route will have multiple positive impacts.

"We believe that the introduction of this route will positively impact both tourism and economic connectivity between our countries. The direct Baku-Tivat route is expected to significantly increase the number of tourists from Azerbaijan and stimulate additional investments from this market into Montenegro. This route will strengthen the ties between the two countries and provide an additional boost to Montenegro's tourism industry, attracting visitors from Azerbaijan who wish to explore Montenegro's rich cultural and natural heritage".

Airports of Montenegro announced that they have served over 783,000 passengers since the beginning of the year.

"Of these, we served over 566,000 passengers in Podgorica, which is a 42% increase compared to 2019. Meanwhile, Tivat is at 99% of the 2019 figures", the Airports of Montenegro stated.

"We remind you that earlier this season, two new routes were opened in Tivat - to Izmir and Birmingham, with Bristol also being announced. In this context, we are particularly pleased with the expansion of our national airline's network", Airports of Montenegro stated.

The National Tourism Organization of Montenegro highlighted that Montenegro is extremely popular both as a tourist destination and as an attractive business market in Azerbaijan, with a constant growth in the number of interested tourists from that country.

"According to data from the Statistical Office of Montenegro (MONSTAT), during 2023, we recorded a significant increase in arrivals of Azerbaijani tourists by 84.25% compared to 2022, and an increase of 108.17% compared to 2019. According to the same source, during 2023, there was an increase of 132.73% in overnight stays compared to the number of overnight stays in 2022. These figures confirm the growing popularity of Montenegro among tourists from Azerbaijan, and we are very pleased with the proactive approach of our national airline in enhancing connectivity with the rest of the world, which is crucial for the continuation of this positive trend. With each new flight, we move closer to the goal of making Montenegro even more accessible and attractive to travelers worldwide", The National Tourism Organization of Montenegro stated.

The Tourism Organization of Tivat expressed their delight at opening routes to new markets, as Tivat is a city with the potential to offer its tourist services 365 days a year.

"The basis of any connectivity is direct air connections, and unfortunately, we lack these outside the main summer season. Regarding guests from Azerbaijan, in 2023, we had 69% more overnight stays compared to 2022, and we hope that the opening of the twice-weekly route will contribute to this number continuing to rise. As Tivat develops year by year, its easier accessibility through air connections contributes to the promotion of the city, which stands out as an attractive tourist destination competitive with other Mediterranean cities", The Tourism Organization of Tivat stated.

The welcome was organized in the spirit of Montenegrin hospitality, emphasizing our commitment to preserving and promoting traditions and customs.

Baku is the largest city on the Caspian Sea and one of the biggest tourist spots in the Caucasus. It successfully preserves its rich tradition while embracing modernity, making it a unique destination that attracts visitors from all over the world. Those who visit this metropolis will have the opportunity to see historical monuments such as the medieval Old City, as well as get acquainted with modern creations such as the Flame Towers and the futuristic Heydar Aliyev complex.
